Patchefsky, A. S., Israel, H. L., Hoch, W. S., and Gordon, Gloria (1973). Thorax, 28, 680-693. Desquamative interstitial pneumonia: relationship to interstitial fibrosis. The clinical course and radiographic and pathological findings in 14 patients having the histological pattern of desquamative interstitial pneumonia (DIP) have been studied. Four deaths occurred from cardiorespiratory failure and two from other diseases, and one patient has severe pulmonary insufficiency. Seven patients had altered immunological reactivity or arthritis. Necropsy of three patients, one who died of respiratory insufficiency and two of other diseases, revealed diffuse pulmonary fibrosis with loss of the desquamative features noted

Idiopathic interstitial pneumonias: clinical findings, pathogenesis, pathology and radiologic findings.
Idiopathic interstitial pneumonias are currently classified into four categories: usual interstitial pneumonia, nonspecific interstitial pneumonia with fibrosis, acute interstitial pneumonia and desquamative interstitial pneumonia. The fibrotic process in interstitial pneumonias appears to result from a complex interaction between fibroblasts, other lung parenchymal cells and macrophages. The c...

According to the American Thoracic Society (ATS)/European Respiratory Society consensus classification, idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs) include several clinic-radiologic-pathologic entities: idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP), nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP), cryptogenic organizing pneumonia, acute interstitial pneumonia, respiratory bron...
متن کاملDesquamative alveolar disease (desquamative interstitial pneumonia): case report.
Desquamative interstitial pneumonia is a disease characterized by massive alveolar cell proliferation and desquamation with sparse interstitial involvement. The reported case shows an unusually widespread radiographic reticulo-nodular image and abundant alveolar cells in the sputum. Functional studies reveal the expected diffusion defect with practically normal mechanical properties of the lung...

IdIopAthIc InterstItIAl pneumonIAs The terminology of idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIP) varies from country to country and is often confusing. It is called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) in the United States,7 cryptogenic fibrosing alveolitis (CFA) in the United Kingdom8 or idiopathic interstitial pneumonia in Japan.9 In our country, it is termed either as IPF or CFA. The landmark c...
